DYSE (Danone Young Social
Entrepreneur) is a social entrepreneurship competition among
Indonesia University students which is based on Danone Sustainability
Development Program.
When the first time I saw about
this competition I feel so interested because there is a big chance to start a
business with a free funding, moreover this is a social business, so we can get
two benefits in a raw, profit and help people in need.
At the beginning of May, I share
about this competition to my friends to know if any of them interested to join,
and then my friend Juwyta chat me to make a team, without any consideration I
said OK! Then we need three more students to complete this team because one of
the requirements is the team must consisted by 5 students.
And then I think that Jefri and
Marconi are good enough to fill the blank space on this team, Jefri is the
finalist of Marketeers Competition and Marconi is a vice president of AKSI
INDONESIA MUDA, that’s a good opportunity. After I offer them to join, they
said OK! Because they have the same passion in business. And we need one more
students, we have a long discussion to choose one of our friends to complete
this time, suddenly we remember about Tuti, she is a very cheerful and diligent
students, in addition she is from Padang, so she must good at cooking. So I
BBM-ed her and asked if she would join us to embrace(?) this competition. And
she said that she would enthusiastically.
Now, I want to introduce the member
of Surplus Creator team :
1. CEO - Samuel Putra Lumban
Batu/Management/2012
2. CMO - Jefri Parulian
Nainggolan/Business Administration/2012
3. CFO - Juwyta
Sinaga/management/2012
4. COO - Tuti Sri
Endrawati/management/2012
5. CHRO - Marconi Sitompul/Public
Administration/2012
After our team was complete the
next step was to think about what kind of business would we built and who would
be the target.
It was a very complicated
discussion, so we started with brainstorming, each members should give their ideas
to be discussed together, so many idea we proposed that night and after a long
argument we got one conclusion “To empower refugees of Sinabung to make
Andaliman Sauce” all of us agreed with that project because andaliman is an
identity of bataknese and Sinabung refugees is a community that really-really
need to be empowered because they have no work anymore because of the eruption
of Sinabung. Moreover there is no industry that produce andaliman sauce so far,
so we are the pioneer, GREAT opportunity, huh?
The project had chosen, and then we
work on the proposal, it takes less more 3 weeks to finish the proposal and
sent it to the DYSE’s committees by uploaded to website. Few days after we
uploaded the proposal we invited to do a Presentation+Interview session, the
location was in Pizza Hut Merdeka Walk, with red coordinated costume we through
the session confidently (I’m not sure about this) it takes one hour and a half.
And the interviewers were two. they were so young and looks so smart, and the
main judge asked us to revise our slide presentation and must be received by
her in two days.
A week after the regional selection
we emailed by Miss Tatya and said “congratulations” because she has choose our
team as one of the team she would present to the committee but we have to
revise our slide and proposal (again). But we love to do that, because we got
closer to be one of the 12 national finalists. Now, Our competitor from Medan
is only one, that was Toba Dream Team. The national committees will decide is
any of us deserve to run into the final selection. Few days after we sent the
revised slide and proposal the announcement date finally came.

@Dancommunity (The official account
of Groupe Danone) upload an announcement picture, and that was one of the best
picture I have ever seen, because there was Surplus Creator – USU as one of the
12 national finalists. And we were the only one team from ex.java island. So
grateful J
After the announcement, now we
enter Pilot Project Implementation, we have to make an introduction videos,
some revisions and preparing our prototype. It’s gonna be a busy months, but we
love it, we enjoy every process and steps J I believe
that we can’t accomplish anything if we do nothing.
-Samuel, the CEO
